Abstract: The paper offers operational definition to the terms: "developing", "ideal school library" and "falling standard of education." it also highlights history of school libraries, the significance of having a library in every school, the place of an ideal school library in developing the study skill of the school child, the role of the school librarian. Library facilities and falling standard of education in public schools Nigeria is also examined. In conclusion, suggestions for the development of ideal school libraries in Nigeria are postulated.
