Abstract: Modification characteristics of Accacia nilotica (Bagaruwa in Hausa) vegetable tanning material with naphthalene-based synthan have been investigated. The initial results showed that blending. at a- total concentration of 60% WIW Bagaruwa/Syntan ratios produced some synergisms such as improved colour, antimould activity, higher hydrothermal stability and increased rate of penetration of Baqaruwa tannins, hitherto lacking in the individual tanning materials. However, greater synergisms were displayed by the blends at 30:30% WIW and 20:40% WIW Bagaruwatsyntan ratios.
