Abstract: Art is life and it affects every area of human existence. Early development of study skills is greatly enhanced through the study of visual arts and other relevant motor skill development studies which of course the epitome is visual or creative arts as the case may apply. Art education strengthens problem-solving and critical-thinking skills in individuals for a better society. The experience of making decisions and choices in the course of creating art carries over into other parts of life and career in general. This all important subject area is however suffering great neglect in most secondary schools in our country. Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state is a case in view and how the neglect of this field of study is affecting the growth of the visual art industry because of lack of adequate man power, motivation and other infrastructures for the advance of visual arts. This study was embarked upon as a passionate drive to correct the current trend of the neglect and proffer possible solution to the issue of neglect of visual art in senior secondary schools which is the spring board to tertiary education in the Nigerian system of education.
